Sleepy Groundhogs
Sleeping in their dens
Please be very quiet
Oh, so, very quiet
If you shake them
If you wake them
They will look for shadows
- Build a groundhog den. (Bear Blocks work
great or use space under a table.)
- Children pretend to be groundhogs and creep into the den
and sleep!
- When they have awakened, they come up from their den to
see if they can see their shadows.
- If it is a cloudy day (no light) the groundhogs go back
to sleep for six more weeks of winter.
- If the sun casts a shadow (light's on) they stay out
of the den and celebrate an early spring.
