School Age - Creative Arts
Learning to express oneself in the visual and performing arts provides children with an alternative mode of expression. We encourage and support children to take risks beyond their initial level of comfort in order to find excitement in exploring their creative capacities in new ways.
Visual Arts – MCC provides children with access to various kinds of materials through which they are able to explore and create. The MCC’s Drawing Curriculum lays a foundation of visual arts concepts providing children with a vocabulary and series of lessons that introduce principles such as form, light, perspective, proportion, and composition. Some of the specific skills and mediums we teach include: cartooning, collage, clay, crochet, painting, jewelry, mobiles, mosaics, origami, photography, sewing, and woodworking.
Performing Arts – Performance provides children with the opportunity to engage an audience. Our children are guided to explore various ways of using their body as a form of expression to create characters from within and outside themselves. Whether it is a play, a dance, improvisation, a puppet show, or rhythm performance, our curriculum teaches children to be aware of and coordinate with others.
